Land of the sleepy dragon

I'm back at Yoga Plus, and very happy to be here.

It's very hot here at the moment, but cools down to around 25 in the evening. The centre is quite full, so I'm staying up at the hotel/taverna Livikon - 10 minutes walk uphill from the centre. Good exercise and a sublime view.

As I walk down I can see for miles, beyond our bay, round beyond Agia Galini, possibly to Matala to the east, and to Triopetra and the Preveli headland to the west. And of course, the island of Gavdos is visible on clear days - the southernmost part of Europe. I'll post photos when I've got a better connection than 28bpm :-) Dimitris bar hasn't yet embraced broadband.

I've had plenty of settling-in time - a full day and a half before my first two shifts, which I did back to back last night.

The lovely thing about arriving here is working out what to do with the free time (beach, novel or sleep?) I know soon I'll be back with my writing, and that by the end of the season I'll be feeling quite rushed, but for now...this is lovely!

I felt a little nervous meeting the new staff - the place and routines are almost the same, but the people are different. I'll be with them for 3 months and we will gradually get to know each other. What has helped me has been remembering what I learnt on the Vipassana meditation course - that anxiety and other emotions manifest themselves as feelings which are physical sensations, which will pass. And also the wisdom in the Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz, particularly "don't make assumptions".

More from me later.
